Still managed to get out with Neville and mates to catch this lot.

The weather blew up again and caused the cancellation of the next charter but came good towards the end of the month enough for Stephen to get his group out to catch this lot.

A week and a bit on the Slip for our annual maintenance cut into the fishing time but with the bottom cleaned and the prop polished we were back in the water and ready to take the next group (all the way from Geelong) out after their share.

The water was a bit cold but the guys still managed to get a pretty good catch of a variety of fish with some good sizes amongst them.

A quick turnaround for the final charter for August and the water was still too cold for the fish to be too interested in our baits. We still managed to get an esky full of some good fish for the boys on board and they went home to Brisbane happy with their days fishing.

The last 2 weeks of July saw strong wind warnings almost every day which meant the postponement of a couple of charters but better weather is just around the corner so we are gearing up to get back amongst them.

It’s easy to complain about the weather but in the long run this is a blessing. Heavy rains have flushed all the creeks and rivers. This nutrient rich water leaving the creeks has fantastic flow on affects so we can expect unbelievable fishing in the near future.

Keep your eyes open for Fishing DVD volume 10 and 11. We have an ad in version 10 and a full length feature in episode 11. Filming was a blast and I am told the finished version has come up a treat.

Early in the week we had a private charter with a small group from Melbourne. This was their first trip to Agnes and 1770 and they were interested in seeing Pancake Creek, as well as getting stuck in to some serious fishing. On normal day trips we usually focus on fishing only however if you have the boat booked privately you get to call the shots. After collecting some live baits we head towards Pancake where we spent the morning. For those of you who haven’t been to Pancake it is one of the only rivers in Australia with live coral. After a snorkel and a bite to eat it was time for a fish.

First drop, Pip, a relative newcomer to fishing was put to the test when her live bait was smashed. After some quick tips from Kevin she was soon using the rod and reel correctly, letting the fish take line when it went for a run (The drag system on the Shimano TLD 15 and 25’s is sensational. They are an ideal reel for this type of fishing). A short time later a nice snapper was boat side. As it turned out this snapper was in quite a large school of fish which provided great fishing.

While the snapper were chewing, Sue, Kevin’s wife and creator of our sensational meals while at sea got the chance to wet a line. She was rewarded with this nice Cod which monstered her live Slimy. Cobia and Trevally were also caught Making it a very successful charter.

Two days later, northerly still blowing, we had another fishing charter. Kevin made the call to target some Reds at a secret spot of his. We had caught good Reds here before so were confident we could put the anglers on the money. It wasn’t long before Jim’s rod was buckled over and the drag screaming. Big headshakes were a good sign, and when we caught our first glimpse of the fish our assumptions were confirmed. Jims Red went 10.5 Kilo. To heavy to risk lifting after back surgery so Kev lent him a hand for the photo.

Next drop Anne had her work cut out for her as line pealed off her TLD 15. Anne quietly went about her business and skillfully fought her fish to the boat. Neil also got in on the red action landing this nice fish pictured below. The bite was red hot but slowed after these fish were taken so we decided it would be a good time to grab a bite to eat in the protected lagoon of Lady Musgrave
Island. During the day we saw a number of whales, with one breaching right near the boat. Unfortunately none of the crew is that flash with a camera so we missed any shots

A number of Hussar, Parrot Fish and Sweet lip were also caught during the day fishing charter.
